Commitment to Achieving Net Zero

 

City Locums is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045. As a provider of insourced and agency staffing services in the UK, we recognise the importance of reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainable business practices across all operations and supply chains.

 

Baseline Emissions Footprint

 

Our baseline year is FY 2022–2023. Emissions were calculated in accordance with the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and included Scope 1, Scope 2, and partial Scope 3 categories.

Emission Reduction Targets

 

To support our Net Zero goal, City Locums has adopted the following near-term carbon reduction targets:

  • Reduce total GHG emissions by 40% by 2030 compared to baseline year.
  • Achieve 100% renewable electricity usage by 2027.
  • Transition to low-carbon business travel options where feasible.
  • Work with supply chain partners to monitor and reduce indirect emissions.

 

Carbon Reduction Initiatives

 

Since the baseline year, City Locums has implemented several initiatives:

 

Energy Efficiency Improvements

 

  • Upgraded office lighting to LED.
  • Implemented smart thermostat systems to reduce heating and cooling energy use.
  • Transitioned to a green energy supplier (partial renewable energy mix).

 

Remote Working & Digital Transformation

  • Enabled flexible and hybrid working, reducing daily commuting.
  • Implemented digital document workflows to reduce paper and courier use.
  • Held virtual meetings to reduce business travel.

 

Sustainable Procurement

  • Encouraged suppliers to share environmental credentials and carbon reduction goals.
  • Prioritised ethical and sustainable office supply vendors.

 

Waste & Resource Reduction

  • Implemented recycling stations.
  • Reduced single-use plastics and encouraged reusable materials across operations.

 

Planned Future Measures (2025–2030)

  • Fully switch to 100% renewable electricity by 2027.
  • Conduct formal carbon audits annually and expand Scope 3 data collection.
  • Adopt an internal carbon offset scheme for unavoidable emissions starting 2026.
  • Invest in green technology for any future office upgrades (e.g., solar panels, high-efficiency appliances).
  • Develop a sustainability partnership program with suppliers to promote shared carbon reduction efforts.

 

Carbon Offset Strategy

 

While our primary goal is to reduce emissions at source, we recognise some emissions may be unavoidable in the near term. We will begin exploring certified carbon offset projects (e.g., woodland creation, renewable energy credits) to neutralise remaining emissions from 2026 onward, with a focus on UK-based or verified international programs.

 

Monitoring & Reporting

 

City Locums will:

  • Review and update this Carbon Reduction Plan annually.
  • Monitor progress against targets.
  • Publish annual updates on our website or as part of ESG/sustainability reporting.
